Advice For Any RPG DM

The Internet is full of advice for dungeon masters / game masters. Some of it is good, some of it is intentionally complicated, and some is as useful as a tick on a beach ball. Of all the advice I’ve ever received about being a better dungeon master, this is by far the most useful to me:

“What would be the most entertaining thing that could possibly happen, right now?”

Being a dungeon master isn’t about destroying (TPK) your players. It isn’t plotting their demise or making things so difficult that they have to become insanely powerful to overcome them. Being a dungeon master is about one thing: providing an entertaining, fun, memorable experience for everyone at your table.

Make it fun, don’t make it personal.
